[Watch] "Calm down guys" - Rohit Sharma to fans chanting 'Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Starc'
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma quieted fans shouting 'Mitchell Starc' with a cheeky smile during a recent promotional event in the US. The fans' chant had to do with Rohit's brutal assault on the Aussie left-arm pacer during the recent 2024 T20 World Cup clash between India and Australia.
In a crucial Super Eight game between the two sides, the ace batter tore Starc apart for four sixes and a boundary in his second over. The 29-run over proved pivotal to India posting a massive 205-5 in 20 overs as Rohit scored a magnificent 92 off 41 deliveries.
With Rohit getting ready to answer questions on stage during the event, the fans started chanting Starc's name, to which the Indian skipper asked them to calm down with a smile.
Here is a video of the moment:
Rohit's heroics led India to a 24-run win over Australia, effectively eliminating the latter from the tournament.
The Men in Blue went on to win the title without suffering a single defeat in the competition with victories over England and South Africa in the semi-final and final, respectively. Rohit finished as India's leading run-scorer of the World Cup with 257 runs at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.70 in eight outings.
"I bowled five bad balls and he hit them all for six" - Mitchell Starc on Rohit Sharma's assault
Mitchell Starc recently conceded that Rohit Sharma took complete advantage of his five bad deliveries in the India-Australia 2024 T20 World Cup clash.
While Rohit finished on 92 from 41, Starc gave away 45 runs in his four overs despite picking up two wickets.
On Rohit's attack against him, Starc said on the LiSTNR Sport podcast:
"I've played a lot against him. He had a good tournament, especially in our game. I think he targeted that wind in St. Lucia as well. If you look at the runs from each end, one end went for a lot more than the other. I bowled from that end. I bowled five bad balls and he hit them all for six."
Starc had a disappointing tournament with only five wickets in as many games at an average of over 30 and an economy rate of 8.55.
Meanwhile, Australia lost their final two Super Eight games against Afghanistan and India to be eliminated before the semi-finals.
