[Watch] Chamika Karunaratne seemingly takes a blinder in KAF vs CLS LPL 2024 match, but umpire rules it not out
Colombo Strikers' bowling all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne seemingly took a blinder in the LPL 2024 match against Kandy Falcons at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla on Saturday. Even as the Sri Lankan started celebrating, the third umpire ruled it not out, as Karunaratne didn't look like he had a finger underneath the ball.
The incident occurred in the eighth over of the innings bowled by leg-spinner Shadab Khan. Mohammad Haris carved one to extra cover by making room and seemed to have got the ball into the gap.
However, Karunaratne came running in and took the catch by sticking out one hand and celebrated passionately. However, the third umpire ruled it not out seemingly because the 28-year-old had dragged the ball onto the turf after taking the catch.
Here's the video:
Haris, who was on nine at that time, went on to hammer 56 off 29. Earlier, the Strikers were powered by Glenn Phillips' 43-ball 70 and Angelo Perera's quickfire 38 to 199 in 20 overs. With figures of 4-0-40-3, Dushmantha Chameera was the pick of the bowlers for the Falcons.
Chamika Karunaratne's cameo propels Colombo Strikers to victory
Karunaratne's 5-ball 13 consisting of a four and a six proved decisive, as the Strikers edged out the Falcons in Dambulla. Andre Fletcher, Mohammad Haris, Kamindu Mendis and Angelo Mathews came up with sizeable contributions, but the Strikers kept striking regularly.
With 20 required off the final over, Thisara Perera removed Chaturanga de Silva. Nevertheless, Mathews wasn't ready to give up and smacked two sixes and a four. However, Perera ran out the former Sri Lankan skipper when the Falcons required three off the final ball.
Matheesha Pathirana earned the Player of the Match award for his match figures of 4-0-26-4.
