[Watch] Chinnaswamy crowd gets behind Virat Kohli on Day 5 of 2024 IND vs NZ 1st Test
Former India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Virat Kohli is the crowd favorite at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. This was evident as spectators got behind Kohli after Jasprit Bumrah struck on the second ball on Day 5 (Sunday, October 20) of the opening Test against New Zealand.
Kohli asked the crowd to get behind Team India as they took the field to defend just 107 against the Kiwis. The fans started cheering every ball to lift the spirit of the bowling unit.

Like MS Dhoni in Chennai, Kohli is like an adopted son in Bengaluru. The Delhi-born player has been playing for the franchise since the inaugural edition in 2008. Last year, he said (via WION):
"I feel really fortunate to have played for one franchise from day one. It's been a constant relationship based on trust from both ends that we are working for the same thing and the value that I have seen fans connecting with me very organically is because of the fact that we play the game for the right reasons."
"I am really honoured and fortunate to be here for so long, in a place where I absolutely love coming to every year and start the IPL journey all over again. So, it's always very exciting,” he added.
It’s not just the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Virat Kohli is a great crowd-puller. The 35-year-old makes an instant impact with his aura. Kohli is one of the most followed athletes with 270 million followers on Instagram.
Virat Kohli completes 9,000 runs in Test cricket
Virat Kohli became the fourth Indian to complete 9,000 runs in Test cricket during his 70-run knock against New Zealand in the second innings of the first Test. Kohli will next be seen in action in the second Test against New Zealand at the Maharashtra Cricket Asociation Stadium in Pune, starting October 24.
