[Watch] Chris Jordan claims hat-trick in USA vs ENG T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match
England right-arm speedster Chris Jordan became the first man from his country to take a hat-trick in a T20 International in the ongoing Super 8 clash against USA at Bridgetown in Barbados. The Barbadian took four wickets off five balls in the 19th over to restrict the co-hosts to 115.
Jordan dismissed Ali Khan, Nosthush Kenijge, and Saurabh Netravalkar off consecutive deliveries. He started by pegging back Khan's off-stump, followed by trapping Kenijge lbw as the DRS attempt went in vain. The veteran then uprooted Netravalkar's middle-stump and wheeled away in celebration. Jordan, who replaced Mark Wood in the line-up, recorded outstanding figures of 2.5-0-10-4.
The co-hosts lost the toss and were asked to bat by Jos Buttler. However, their innings never really took off on a surface that produced a fair amount of spin. Nitish Kumar top-scored with 30, while Corey Anderson managed 29 runs to give their bowlers something to defend.
Chris Jordan had taken only 3 wickets in T20 World Cup 2024 before this match:
The veteran fast bowler had managed only three wickets before England locked horns against the USA, bagging figures of 2/44 against Australia and 1/19 against Namibia. Mark Wood made way for Jodan in the line-up after delivering a below-par performance against South Africa.
England, led by Buttler, had a scratchy start to their campaign as they had a washout against Scotland, followed by a defeat to Australia. However, it came back on track after comprehensive wins over Namibia and Oman. Scotland's loss to Australia favoured England as they progressed to the Super 8 stage.
Buttler's men started their Super 8 campaign with an eight-wicket victory over the West Indies as Phil Salt and Jonny Bairstow helped them chase down 181. They were also on track to gun down 164 against South Africa, but lost by seven runs.
