[Watch] Chris Woakes bowls unplayable delivery to dismiss Kraigg Brathwaite for a duck in ENG vs WI 3rd Test

A superb delivery from Chris Woakes helped England get off to a flier as he dismissed West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite for a duck. It came on Day 2 of the ongoing third Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Saturday, July 27. With an absolute jaffa, Woakes cleaned up Brathwaite for a six-ball duck and also completed his wicket maiden.

The dismissal came as Woakes bowled a length delivery on off-stump that angled in and shaped away from the batter. It squared Brathwaite up completely and the inward movement beat the outside edge before crashing onto the top of the off-stump.

Earlier in the day, Chris Woakes scored a half-century, scoring 62 runs off 78 balls with the help of seven boundaries.


Chris Woakes’ half-century helps England take 94-run first-innings lead

A fighting knock from Chris Woakes helped England take a 94-run first innings lead on Day 2. He also shared a vital 106-run partnership with Jamie Smith for the eighth wicket. Smith, in particular, top scored with 95 off 109 deliveries, hitting one six and 12 boundaries. Meanwhile, Joe Root and skipper Ben Stokes also chipped in with scores of 87 (124) and 54 (69), respectively.

Alzarri Joseph starred with the ball for the Windies, returning with figures of 4/122. Meanwhile, Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph bagged three and two wickets, respectively.

Batting first, WI put up 282 in their first innings. Kraigg Brathwaite, Jason Holder, and Joshua Da Silva chipped in with scores of 61 (86), 59 (112), and 49 (99), respectively. Gus Atkinson was the pick of English bowlers, finishing with figures of 4/67, while Chris Woakes and Mark Wood picked up three and two wickets, respectively.

In their second innings, West Indies were 23/2 after seven overs, with Mikyle Louis and Alick Athanaze at the crease. Kirk Mckenzie was the last batter to be dismissed, caught behind by Jamie Smith off Gus Atkinson.

Ben Stokes and Co. have already taken a 2-0 unassailable lead in the three-match Test series.
