[Watch] Chris Woakes cleans up Jayden Seales for a golden duck with an absolute beauty during ENG vs WI 2nd Test
England fast bowler Chris Woakes delivered the goods for the hosts at Trent Brindge on Saturday, July 20, sending back Jayden Seales for a duck. It was also the third wicket of the day for Woakes.
The delivery was pitched at a good length and Seales tried to play the line and offer a front-foot defense. However, the ball pitched and nipped just enough to go through the gap between his bat and pad and crashed into the stumps.
Here's the video of the dismissal:
Jayden Seales stood in disbelief for a few seconds before making his way back to the pavilion, understandably surprised by the seam movement. Chris Woakes had also dismissed Alzarri Joseph on the previous ball and that took England to the cusp of bowling out the visitors.
Chris Woakes delivered just the kind of spell England needed on Day 3
West Indies ended Day 2 with a spirited batting performance that saw them post 351/5, thanks to a 175-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge. The latter scored a sensational hundred and the visitors had a great chance to take a healthy lead on Day 3.
England, on the other hand, needed early wickets in the opening session and that's exactly what Chris Woakes provided as he sent back Jason Holder early on. Gus Atkinson then sent back Kevin Sinclair, before Woakes' double strike of Alzarri and Seales saw the Windies depending on the final-wicket partnership.
The visitors still have Joshua Da Silva at one end who has reached his half-century. They will hope the wicketkeeper adds as many runs as possible and tries to get West Indies at parity with England.
Nevertheless, Woakes' spell has ensured that England are still the team in control in the second Test of the series.
