[Watch] Comical scenes as mid-on completes catch to dismiss Matthew Lamb in Derbyshire vs Worcestershire One Day Cup match

Matthew Lamb suffered one of the most comical dismissals in the One Day Cup match between Derbyshire and Worcestershire in Derby on Friday, August 2. The right-hander’s bat broke while facing a delivery from Jack Home. As a result, he departed for just 13 runs off 19 balls.

The incident took place in the 34th over of Derbyshire’s innings. Home bowled a length ball down the leg side and Lamb went for a big shot towards the deep mid-wicket. The bat broke and flew in the air along with the ball. The bat reached the mid-wicket while Hishaam Khan completed the catch at mid-on, leaving everyone stunned.

Sharing the video on X, One Day Cup’s official handle wrote:

“Amazing. Matt Lamb's bat snaps in half as he looks to hit the ball over the leg side. The ball finishes in the hands of mid-on, the bat in the hands of midwicket.”

Bats breaking and falling to the ground is a common sight in cricket but the above mode of dismissal is rare in the sport.
