"There are more than 1,000 unread WhatsApp messages on my phone" - Suryakumar Yadav on reaction to his catch in the 2024 T20 World Cup final

Suryakumar Yadav's catch swung the pendulum in India's favor in the closely contested final against South Africa. The Proteas needed 16 runs to win off the final over, with a well-set David Miller at the crease.

Miller kicked off the over by hitting a low full toss from Hardik Pandya down the ground. While it initially appeared that the ball might clear the fence, Suryakumar had other plans. He grabbed an excellent running catch to win the match for India.

Opening up on the important catch, here's what Suryakumar said during a conversation with The Indian Express:

"So when the ball was coming, for a second I looked at him and he looked at me. I ran and my aim was to catch the ball, had he (Rohit) been closer, I would have thrown the ball towards him. But he was nowhere close. In those 4-5 seconds, whatever happened, I can't explain. The amount of reaction I have been getting for that, people have been calling, messaging, there are more than 1,000 unread WhatsApp messages on my phone. The catch is all over social media. I'm grateful that I was there in those five seconds of play."

Suryakumar Yadav was India's second-highest run-getter at the 2024 T20 World Cup. He finished with 199 runs from eight outings at an average of 28.42.
