South Africa star batter David Miller smashed a six to take his team past the finish line against the Netherlands. It came in their 2024 T20 World Cup match in New York on Saturday, June 8.
The left-hander stayed unbeaten on 59 runs off 51 balls in an innings laced with four sixes and three wickets. He almost single-handedly won the game for the Proteas after they were reduced to 12/4 in the chase of 104 runs.
The match-winning shot came in the 19th over of SA’s run chase. Miller began the over with a six over fine leg. The left-hander then went for a four and six at cover and deep mid-wicket, respectively, to finish things off in style against Bas de Leede’s bowling. Miller deposited the match-winning hit into the crowd as he held the pose. The five balls of the over yielded 16 runs.

David Miller and Tristan Stubbs help South Africa beat Netherlands in T20 World Cup thriller
Fighting knocks from David Miller and Tristan Stubbs helped South Africa beat the Netherlands by four wickets in a T20 World Cup game dominated by the bowlers.
Chasing 104, Stubbs scored 33 off 37 with the help of one six and a boundary. Apart from Miller and Stubbs, none of the other batters could reach double digits. Skipper Aiden Markram departed for a three-ball duck, while Quinton de Kock was sent back without facing a ball via run out. Reeza Henricks and Heinrich Klassen departed for single digits.
Vivian Kingma and Logan van Beek bagged two wickets each for the Netherlands, while Bas de Leede scalped one.
Asked to bat first, the Netherlands posted 103/9 in 20 overs. Sybrand Engelbrecht top scored with 40 off 45, including a six and two boundaries. Logan van Beek also chipped in with 23 off 22. Ottneil Baartman starred with the ball for the Proteas, returning with stunning figures of 4/11, while Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje bagged two wickets apiece.
