Deepti Sharma hit a six as London Spirit beat Welsh Fire by four wickets to lift The Hundred 2024 women’s competition at Lord’s in London on Sunday, August 18. The left-handed batter smashed the winning runs off Hayley Matthews when her team needed four runs off the last three deliveries.
The six came on the 98th ball of London Spirit’s run chase. Deepti charged down the track against Matthews and lofted the ball high towards long on. Shabnim Ismail dropped the catch at the boundary ropes and the ball landed on the cushions.
There were contrasting reactions as Ismail looked distraught while Deepti punched the gloves with her batting partner Charlie Dean. The Spirit teammates rushed to hug Deepti after becoming champions.

Deepti finished with run-a-ball 16, including the game-defining six. She also took one wicket in the summit clash.
Overall, Deepti scored 212 runs and bagged eight wickets in her eight The Hundred games this season.
London Spirit beat Welsh Fire to bag maiden The Hundred trophy in women’s competition
A clinical all-round display helped London Spirit beat Welsh Fire to win their maiden The Hundred title.
Asked to bat first, Welsh Fire put up 115/8 in their allotted 100 deliveries. Jess Jonassen starred with the bat, scoring 54 runs off 41 balls with the help of eight boundaries. Hayley Matthews and captain Tammy Beaumont chipped in with 22 (26) and 21 (16), respectively.
Eva Gray and Sarah Glenn emerged as the leading wicket-takers for London Spirit, picking up two wickets apiece, while Tara Norris and Deepti Sharma bagged one each.
In response, London Spirit chased down the target with two deliveries to spare. Georgia Redmayne top scored with 34 off 32. Skipper Heather Knight and Danielle Gibson contributed 24 (18) and 22 (9), respectively, before Deepti hit the winning runs.
Shabnim Ismail showed a fighting spirit, finishing with figures of 3/24, while Freya Davies and Georgia Davies scalped one wicket apiece.
The London Spirit became the third team to win The Hundred trophy in the women’s competition after Oval Invincibles (2021 and 2022) and Southern Brave (2023).
