[Watch] Deepti Sharma’s brilliant caught and bowled sends Georgia Elwiss packing in The Hundred Women’s final

London Spirit all-rounder Deepti Sharma took a stunning catch off her own bowling to dismiss Welsh Fire player Georgia Elwiss in the final of The Hundred Women’s Competition 2024 on Sunday, August 18. The match took place at Lord’s in London.

This dismissal occurred on the 92nd ball of the Fire’s innings. Deepti bowled a flighted delivery outside off-stump and Elwiss came down the track to smash it firmly. The off-spinner got low to her left and took a brilliant catch to claim her first wicket of the final.

Here’s the video of the wicket:

Georgia didn’t contribute much, as she scored two off six balls. Her wicket left the Fire at 106-5 after 92 balls.

London Spirit bowlers' brilliant effort helped restrict Welsh Fire to a low total

London Spirit captain Heather Knight won the toss and chose to bowl first. Tara Norris didn’t start well, giving away 11 runs in the first five balls. However, the left-arm pacer fought back and dismissed Sophia Dunkley for two on the 15th ball.

Leg-spinner Sarah Glenn struck twice in three balls, putting Welsh Fire in a spot of bother. Tammy Beaumont scored 21 off 16 balls, while Sarah Bryce was dismissed for a two-ball duck.

Jess Jonassen and Hayley Matthews put together a 52-run partnership in 46 balls for the fourth wicket. Matthews didn’t find it easy in the middle, as the West Indian all-rounder scored 22 off 26 balls.

It was Jonassen who came to the rescue for the Fire. The left-handed batter scored 54 off 41 balls as the Beaumont-led side finished at 115-8 in 100 balls. Eva Gray and Sarah Glenn each bagged two wickets for the Spirit.

At the time of writing, Spirit were 13-1 after 15 balls, needing 103 to win off 85 balls. Cordelia Griffith and Georgia Redmayne are at the crease.
