[Watch] "Didn't speak a single word" - When Ravi Shastri described his first meeting with ex-girlfriend Amrita Singh as his most embarrassing moment

Former India all-rounder Ravi Shastri once described his first meeting with ex-girlfriend Amrita Singh as his most embarrassing moment. Recalling his first interaction with the Bollywood actor, he stated that, being shy when it came to girls, he did not speak a single word for the first 10 minutes.

Shastri represented India in 80 Tests and 150 ODIs from 1981 to 1992. The former all-rounder scored 3830 runs and claimed 151 wickets in Test matches. Speaking of his one-day career, he accumulated 3108 runs and picked up 129 scalps.

In an old interview given to the Doordarshan channel, Shastri had termed his first meeting with ex-girlfriend Amrita as his most embarrassing moment. A clip of the interview featuring this particular segment has gone viral on social media platforms. In the interaction, the interviewer is seen asking the former India cricketer about his most embarrassing moment.

"Yes, when I met my girlfriend for the first time. Her name is Amrita [Singh], you must have seen her in movies. I met her for the first time in a restaurant in Bombay [now Mumbai] and, for the first 10 minutes, I didn't speak a single word. I knew that I was shy when it came to girls, but I didn't know that one day such a time would come that I won't get a chance to speak even in a single word in 10 minutes," Shastri said, while replying the query.
"She kept talking, so this was my most embarrassing moment," the 62-year-old went on to add.

While Shastri and Amrita were dating at the time the interview was conducted, they did not end up getting married. Shastri tied the knot with Ritu Singh in 1990, but the couple parted ways in 2012. Amrita married actor Saif Ali Khan in 1991, but their relationship also ended in divorce in 2004.

Ravi Shastri recently paid glowing tribute to Virat Kohli

After his playing days, Shastri took up commentary but has also dabbled in coach. He formed a highly successful alliance with former India captain Virat Kohli. Recently, the former all-rounder paid a rich tribute to Kohli and hailed his longevity.

“I think one of the greats of the game. You know, he dominated the decade of cricket across formats of the game. When you look at one player who dominated all three formats of the game, for a period of 10 years, it had to be Virat Kohli," the 62-year-old said in a video posted on ICC.
