West Indies (WI) pacer Jayden Seales survived an eye injury scare during Day 2 of the second Test against South Africa at Providence Stadium in Guyana on Friday, August 16. The incident took place during the Proteas' second innings.
In a video shared by Windies Cricket on X, Seals can be seen pulling out of his runup as several dragonflies cross his path. One of them hit him in his right eye. They captioned the social media post:
“Dead ball by Dragonfly attack! Seales pulls out of his runup after crossing paths with a Dragonfly.”
On the bowling front, Jayden Seales was terrific in the first innings, returning with figures of 3/45. The 22-year-old would be keen to continue his exploits in the second innings as well.
South Africa takes lead against Jayden Seales' West Indies in 2nd Test
A fighting bowling display from South Africa helped them take a 16-run first-inning lead against West Indies in the second Test on Day 2.
Batting first, the visitors were skittled out for 160 in 54 overs in the first innings. David Bedingham (28 off 54), Kyle Verreynne (21 off 33) and Tristan Stubbs (36 off 65) got starts but failed to play longer innings. Dane Piedt and Nandre Burger chipped in with scores of 38* (60) and 23 (56). The duo added a 63-run stand for the 10th wicket. Apart from, Jayden Seales's three-for, Shamar Joseph returned with excellent figures of 5/33.
In response, the Windies were bundled out for 144 in 42.4 overs in their first innings. Jason Holder starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 54 off 88 deliveries. Keacy Carty and Shamar Joseph chipped in with 36 (37) and 25 (27), respectively.
Wiaan Mulder was the pick of South African bowlers, finishing with figures of 4/32. Meanwhile, Nandre Burger and Keshav Maharaj scalped three and two wickets, respectively.
At the time of writing, the Proteas were 74 without loss in their second innings, with Tony de Zorzi (38 off 52) and Aiden Markram (27 off 50) at the crease. The visitors are leading by 90 runs.
