[Watch] Ecstatic fans across India take to streets to celebrate 2024 T20 World Cup victory
Indian cricket fans across various regions gathered in huge numbers to celebrate their team's 2024 T20 World Cup victory on Saturday night (June 29). The Rohit Sharma-led side beat South Africa in the final by seven runs at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
It was a contest worthy of the final as both teams fought fiercely and the result was unpredictable until the final over.
India batted first after winning the toss and notched up 176/7 in 20 overs on the back of contributions from Virat Kohli (76), Axar Patel (47) and Shivam Dube (27). Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje scalped two wickets apiece for South Africa in the bowling department.
Quinton de Kock (39), Tristan Stubbs (31), Heinrich Klaasen (52), and David Miller (21) performed well for the Proteas team in the batting department and kept them in the hunt. However, the Indian bowlers remained calm and composed in crunch moments to take their side over the line.
The triumph provided immense joy to the fans back home as they have waited for more than 13 years to see their favorite team lift a World Cup trophy. They gathered in huge numbers in the streets across various cities like Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Patna, and others to ring in celebrations.
