[Watch] England greats Ben Stokes, Joe Root and Jos Buttler receive rousing welcome at Wimbledon
England greats Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Jos Buttler receive a rousing welcome as they attended the third-round Wimbledon match between Cameron Norrie and fourth seed Alexander Zverev at Centre Court on Saturday, July 6. The trio looked dapper in formal looks.
Interestingly, all three players have served as England captains with Buttler and Stokes reigning skippers of red-ball (Tests) and white-ball (ODIs and T20Is) formats, respectively. Buttler and Stokes, in particular, have won both the 2019 ODI World Cup and the 2022 T20I World Cup, while Root has won the former.
On the professional front, England recently reached the semifinals of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Sharing the video on X (formerly Twitter), Wimbledon’s official handle wrote:
“Three @englandcricket superstars join us in the Royal Box. It's great to have @root66, @benstokes38 and @josbuttler with us at #Wimbledon.”

The presence of international and former players is usually a common sight at Centre Court at Wimbledon.
“Will live forever in the memory of people” – Ben Stokes takes a jibe at Ashes
England Test captain Ben Stokes recently took a sharp jibe at Ashes by backing Bazball and aggressive brand of cricket. In a documentary show by ECB titled ‘The Ashes 2023| Our Take’, Stokes said:
"Everything we've done up until now isn't going to stop because we haven't managed to win the urn back. The reward for our work isn't what we get but what we become. And what we have managed to do is we've managed to become a sports team that will live forever in the memory of people who were lucky enough to witness us play cricket.”
“What we have done is something a lot bigger than any Ashes trophy could ever signify for this team - be the team that everybody will always remember,” he added.
Ben Stokes and Co. had levelled the 2023 Ashes 2-2 after being 0-2 behind in the series. England lost their last Test series in India by 1-4. They will next host a three-match Test series against West Indies. The opening Test will be played at Lord’s in London from July 10 onwards.
