[Watch] England skipper Ben Stokes gets his 200th wicket in Test cricket

England captain Ben Stokes got his 200th Test wicket when he dismissed Kirk McKenzie on the second day of the ongoing match against West Indies at Lord’s. The left-handed batter’s dismissal left his side at 17/2 on Thursday, July 11.

The wicket came on the third ball of the 12th over. Umpire Rod Tucker quickly raised his finger after the right-arm pacer's brilliant inswinger hit McKenzie's pads. The West Indian batter opted for review, but the ball tracker showed the ball was pitching in line and was hitting the leg stump. McKenzie got out on duck as the West Indians found themselves in deep trouble.

This was Ben Stokes' 200th wicket in Test matches. The England all-rounder also became the third player to have scored more than 6,000 runs and have 200 wickets to their name. He joined the list comprising South Africa’s Jacques Kallis and West Indian Garry Sobers.

Here’s the video of the dismissal:

At the time of writing, the West Indies were 36/3 after 18 overs. They were still trailing by 214 runs as England aimed to get an innings win in the first Test match.

A brilliant batting display helped England take a 250 runs first innings lead

The West Indies batting collapsed big time as they were bundled for 121 runs in the first inning. For England, debutant Gus Atkinson stole the show with seven wickets. Meanwhile, James Anderson, who’s playing his last Test, bagged one.

In response, they lost Ben Duckett (3) early. However, Zak Crawley (76) and Ollie Pope (57) stitched a brilliant 94-run stand for the second wicket, getting things going for the hosts.

Joe Root (68) and Harry Brook (50) also brought up their fifties. However, the West Indian bowlers took timely wickets, as they didn't let any player score a big inning. Gudakesh Motie bowled a couple of peaches to dismiss Ben Stokes and Joe Root.

Later in the inning, it was another debutant, Jamie Smith (70), who showcased his talent. The hosts scored 371 runs in the first inning and took an important 250-run lead. Meanwhile, Jayden Seales took four wickets for the visitors.
