[Watch] Fazalhaq Farooqi dismisses Rohit Sharma cheaply in IND vs AFG T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 clash

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma departed cheaply in the ongoing Super 8 clash against Afghanistan at Bridgetown Barbados as left-arm seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi made the breakthrough. The right-handed batter departed for just eight runs as he registered his second successive single-figure score in this year's tournament on Thursday, June 20.

The dismissal occurred in the third over of the innings as Farooqi came on for his second over after conceding only a couple of runs in his opening one.

With the youngster sending down a slower delivery, it gripped the surface as he tried to go over mid-on. All the veteran opener did was manage the toe-end of the bat as Rashid Khan took a simple catch to send his opposite number packing.

Rohit clattered a half-century in the opening match against Ireland in New York but has struggled to get going since then. The Men in Blue, however, have won all the games fairly comfortably thus far.

Meanwhile, the toss went in the favor of the Nagpur-born cricketer. He decided to bat first, citing the dryness of the surface while anticipating that it would get slower as the game progresses.

Both India and Afghanistan made one change each. The inaugural T20 World Cup champions announced that Kuldeep Yadav will replace Mohammed Siraj while Rashid Khan revealed that Hazratullah Zazai has come in place of Karim Janat.

India comes into this clash on the back of wins over Ireland, Pakistan, and USA, beating them fairly comfortably on the tricky surfaces of New York. Their match against Canada at Lauderhill in Florida was washed out due to a wet outfield.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan were unbeaten until running into co-hosts West Indies, who consigned them to a 104-run loss. Afghanistan have also not beaten India in any format yet.
