[Watch] Gautam Gambhir bursts into smile after Rinku Singh takes maiden T20I wicket in IND vs SL Super Over thriller

India head coach Gautam Gambhir burst into a smile as Rinku Singh took his maiden T20I wicket in the third and final game against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on Tuesday, July 30. The moment came as Rinku dismissed well-set Kusal Perera to bring back India into the game.

The dismissal came in the 19th over of Sri Lanka’s run chase. Rinku bowled short of a length ball and Perera mistimed his pull shot only to end up with a top edge. Rinku moved toward off-side to complete caught and bowled dismissal by taking the skier. Perera departed for 46 runs off 34 balls with the hosts requiring nine runs off 10 balls.

Rinku Singh also took the wicket of Ramesh Mendis in the penultimate over to finish with excellent figures of 2/3 in his only over of the game.


Rinku Singh and Suryakumar Yadav among wicket-takers as India beat Sri Lanka in Super Over clash

A stunning bowling display from part-time spinners Rinku Singh and Suryakumar Yadav helped India tie the game against Sri Lanka. After Rinku took a couple of wickets in the 19th over, Yadav picked up two wickets in the last over as well.

In the super over, Washington bowled out Sri Lanka for just two runs before Yadav hit a boundary to take the visitors past the finish line. With the win, the Men in Blue registered a 3-0 clean sweep against the hosts.

Batting first, India put up 137/9 in 20 overs. Shubman Gill top scored with 39 runs off 37 balls with the help of three boundaries. Riyan Parag and Washington Sundar also chipped in with scores of 26 (18) and 25 (18), respectively. Maheesh Theeskshana emerged as the leading wicket-taker for Sri Lanka, returning with figures of 3/28, while Wanindu Hasaranga bagged two wickets.

In response, Sri Lanka managed 137/8 in 20 overs. Apart from Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka chipped in with 43 (41) and 26 (27) respectively but failed to take the team over the line. The Islanders lost their last seven wickets for just 22 runs. Apart from Suryakumar and Rinku, Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi also bagged two wickets apiece for the visitors.

The two teams will next lock horns in the 1st ODI at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on August 2.
