[Watch] Georgia Adams pulls off a stunning one-handed catch to dismiss Hayley Matthews in The Hundred Women’s Competition

Southern Brave player Georgia Adams took a brilliant one-handed catch to dismiss Welsh Fire batter Hayley Matthews in the 17th game of The Hundred Women’s Competition on Monday, August 5. The match took place at Sophia Garden Cricket Ground in Cardiff.

The dismissal came on the 37th ball of the Welsh Fire’s innings. Tilly Corteen-Coleman bowled a full and straight delivery. Hayley Matthews gave a charge and played it across the line, but ended up hitting it into the hands of Georgia Adams. The Southern Brave captain was at the mid-wicket area and took a brilliant one-handed catch.

Hayley Matthews struggled throughout her stay at the crease; she scored one run off 16 balls. Her dismissal left the Welsh Fire at 28/2 after 37 balls.

Chasing a target of 85 runs, the Welsh Fire Women didn’t face any challenges as they won the game by seven wickets. This was Welsh Fire’s fourth win of the tournament in five games.


A brilliant bowling effort by the Welsh Fire Women helped them set the game

Welsh Fire won the toss and chose to bowl first. Freya Davies provided a dream start for them as she dismissed Smriti Mandhana on the first ball of the match. Soon after, Beth Langston removed Maia Bouchier for nine. Danielle Wyatt (14) and Georgia Adams stitched together a 28-run partnership for the third wicket before Georgia Davis dismissed the former.

Southern Brave batters had a tough time as Welsh Fire bowlers kept chipping away at regular intervals. Georgia Adams (17) was the highest scorer as the Southern Brave was bowled out on 84 in 91 balls. Hayley Matthews took three wickets, while Freya Davies and Jess Jonassen bagged two.

In reply, it was an easy chase for Welsh Fire, as they won the match by seven wickets with 10 remaining. Captain Tammy Beaumont (34) was the highest scorer for the winning side.
