[Watch] Glenn Maxwell gives his MLC 2024 Player of the Match award to a fan

Washington Freedom all-rounder Glenn Maxwell displayed a heartwarming gesture following the match against the Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024 on Sunday, July 14. The veteran all-rounder gave his Player of the Match award to a fan and also signed an autograph for him.

In a video doing the rounds on social media, the Victorian could be seen giving a considerably big box to a young fan following the game. Although the Aussie didn't bat, he bagged outstanding figures of 4-0-15-3 with his off-spin, taking the wickets of Shakib Al Hasan, Nitish Kumar, and Andre Russell. He also took a smart running catch to get rid of Ali Khan.

With only 130 needed for victory, the opening partnership of 79 between Steve Smith and Travis Head set things up for The Freedom. They needed only 16 overs to chase down the target and stayed unbeaten in the tournament.

Meanwhile, the swashbuckling all-rounder will miss the three-game T20I series against England in September. However, Maxwell will play the five ODIs against the English and the preceding 50-over fixtures against Scotland. After a torrid IPL 2024 campaign with the bat for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the 35-year-old was in decent form during the subsequent T20 World Cup.

In seven matches, he managed 132 runs at 26.40 and maintained a strike rate of 141.94. He almost single-handedly took Australia to victory against Afghanistan in Kingstown in their Super 8 clash before falling for 59 as the former world champions lost narrowly. The loss made Australia's match against India a must-win affair, but they suffered a 24-run defeat to be eventually knocked out of the competition.

With the selectors looking to build for T20 World Cup 2026, they've brought in a few young players to the squad.
