[Watch] Glenn Maxwell pumped up after completing 100 off just 40 balls in AUS vs NED 2023 World Cup match

Glenn Maxwell celebrated his second World Cup hundred in an aggressive fashion at the Arun Jaitley Stadium today (October 25). The Australian all-rounder reached the triple-figure mark in just 40 balls and set a new record for the fastest hundred in ICC ODI World Cup history.

Maxwell completed his century with a six off a full-toss bowled by Bas de Leede. Batting on 95 off 39 balls, Maxwell dispatched it over the deep square leg boundary and was absolutely pumped after that.

His teammates Mitchell Starc, David Warner and others clapped for him from the dressing room. Maxwell kept his bat on the ground, took his helmet off and acknowledged the applause from the fans and his teammates.

Maxwell finished with 106 runs off 44 balls. He eventually lost his wicket to Logan van Beek while trying to hit a big shot on the third ball of the 50th over. Sybrand Engelbrecht took a magnificent catch in the deep to send Maxwell back to the dressing room, but the damage had already been done by then.

Glenn Maxwell had struggled to make an impact in the 2023 World Cup until this match

It is pertinent to note that the 2023 World Cup had been a forgettable tournament for Glenn Maxwell before today's match against the Netherlands. The Australian all-rounder got out for a golden duck in the previous match against Pakistan at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Before that, Maxwell managed only three runs off 17 deliveries during a tense run-chase against South Africa at the Bharat Ratna Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium. The Australian team management backed him and did not drop him from the playing XI. Maxwell repaid the faith shown in him by smashing the fastest ton in ODI World Cup history.
