[Watch] Glenn Maxwell smashes quickfire 43 off 19 balls in AUS vs PAK 1st T20I 2024

Australia’s Glenn Maxwell showcased his batting brilliance with some stunning shots in the opening game of the three-match T20I series against Pakistan. The match was played on Thursday, November 14, at The Gabba in Brisbane.

Pakistan won the toss and chose to bowl first after the match was reduced to seven overs due to rain. Australia’s openers, Matthew Short (7 off 4) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (9 off 5), couldn’t make an impact. Glenn Maxwell came in at No. 3 and immediately asserted himself, reverse sweeping Naseem Shah for a boundary off his first ball.

Maxwell's attack was relentless, hitting four boundaries off his first six balls. He then reverse-swept Shaheen Afridi for a six over the third man in the fourth over, before launching Haris Rauf for two sixes and a four in the fifth. The 36-year-old finished with a blistering 43 off 19 balls, including five fours and three sixes.

Here’s a video of Glenn Maxwell’s innings:

Tim David scored 10 off eight balls, while Marcus Stoinis played a brilliant cameo, finishing unbeaten on 21 off seven balls, as Australia posted 93/4 after seven overs.

A stellar bowling performance propelled Australia to a 29-run victory

Chasing 94, Sahibzada Farhan got off to a strong start with two quick fours. However, Spencer Johnson struck back, removing the opener on the fourth ball. Xavier Bartlett followed up in the next over, dismissing captain Mohammad Rizwan (0) and Usman Khan (4).

Things quickly unraveled for Pakistan as Nathan Ellis took two wickets in the third over, sending Babar Azam (3) and Irfan Khan (0) back to the pavilion, leaving them at 16 for five.

Pakistan never recovered, though Abbas Afridi fought back with an unbeaten 20 off 10 balls. Despite his efforts, Pakistan fell short by 29 runs. Bartlett and Ellis both took three wickets apiece for Australia.
