[Watch] Gudakesh Motie removes Joe Root with a stunner in ENG vs WI 1st Test
Gudakesh Motie bowled a brilliant delivery to get rid of dangerous-looking Joe Root on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test between England and West Indies at Lord’s in London on Thursday, July 11. Root departed for 68 runs off 114 balls, an innings laced with seven boundaries.
The dismissal came at the stroke of lunch in the 63rd over of England’s innings. Motie fired a full-length ball that pitched and held its line while Root went for the drive. The right-hander missed the outside edge and the ball crashed onto the off stump. Motie had earlier bowled a similar delivery to dismiss England captain Ben Stokes.

With the wicket, WI reduced the hosts to 287/6 after 66.3 overs. Meanwhile, Joe Root now has the joint second-most Test 50s at Lord's alongside Ian Bell.
Joe Root shines as England extend 1st innings lead to 172 at Lunch on Day 2
Joe Root delivered with the bat as England stretched their first innings lead to 172 against West Indies at Lunch on Day 2. Apart from Root, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook chipped in with 76 (89), 57 (74) and 50 (64), respectively.
At the time of writing, England were 293/6, with Jamie Smith and Chris Woakes at the crease.
Earlier on Day 1, WI were bundled out for 121 in 41.4 overs after being put into bat first. Mikyle Louis, Kavem Hodge, and Alick Athanaze got starts, scoring 27 (58), 24 (48), and 23 (56) but failed to convert them into big scores. Alzarri Joseph and Gudakesh Motie were the other two batters to reach double digits.
Gus Atkinson starred with the ball for England by returning with figures of 7/45, while James Anderson, Chris Woakes, and skipper Ben Stokes scalped one wicket apiece.
The hosts would be keen to win the opening game against WI by a good margin to give a fitting farewell to James Anderson, who is playing his last Test, his 188th in the format.
