[Watch] Gus Atkinson sends Kraigg Brathwaite packing for maiden Test wicket on just his second ball during ENG vs WI 1st Test

England speedster Gus Atkinson got his Test career off to a fantastic start as he dismissed West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite on just the second ball that he bowled. Brathwaite's scratchy innings of 6(33) in the first Test at Lord's on Wednesday (July 10) came to a tame end.

It was a good length delivery from Atkinson outside off-stump and Brathwaite looked to cash in. However, he played it away from his body with no foot movement and paid the price as the ball took the inside edge and clipped his leg-stump.

The England fielders swarmed around Gus Atkinson and understandably so as the fast bowler would have felt relieved on having taken his maiden Test wicket. Here's the video:

As soon as Brathwaite realized the ball hit the stumps, his head was down in disappointment. He knew perhaps that it was a soft dismissal and could have played it in a better way.

Gus Atkinson's wicket hands England the advantage in first hour of play

England won the toss and Ben Stokes opted to bowl first in overcast conditions at Lord's. While Kraigg Brathwaite was patient at one end, Mikyle Louis was a lot more positive and was keen on putting away the loose deliveries. The opening duo added 34 runs for the first wicket and until Brathwaite was dismissed, the West Indies seemed settled in the game.

However, the wicket of the West Indies captain by Atkinson has arguably handed England the initiative. They have a new batter now to try and make more inroads with some quick wickets.
