[Watch] Harmanpreet Kaur takes a one-handed stunner in IND-W vs WI-W 2024 1st ODI

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur took a stunning one-handed catch to dismiss Aaliyah Alleyne in the first ODI of the three-match series against the West Indies on Sunday, December 22. The match was held at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.

The dismissal occurred on the last ball of the 11th over of West Indies' innings. Renuka Thakur delivered a full-length ball angled at the stumps, and Alleyne swung hard but couldn’t make clean contact. Positioned at mid-on, Harmanpreet sprang into the air and plucked the ball with one hand, executing a remarkable catch. The right-handed batter scored 13 runs off 23 balls.

Here is a video of the catch:

Chasing a target of 315, the West Indies never looked in contention as they lost Qiana Joseph run out off the very first ball. Hayley Matthews (0), Deandra Dottin (8), and Rashada Williams (3) all failed to make an impact, leaving the visitors at a precarious 26 for five.

India's bowlers continued to dominate, and the West Indies were bundled out for just 103 in 26.2 overs, suffering a heavy defeat by 211 runs. Renuka was the standout performer for Women in Blue, claiming five wickets.

Smriti Mandhana shines with the bat for the Women in Blue

Asked to bat first, the Indian opening duo of Smriti Mandhana and debutant Pratika Rawal shared a partnership of 110 runs off 140 balls for the first wicket. Hayley Matthews provided the breakthrough for West Indies, removing Rawal for 40 off 69 balls.

Mandhana played a brilliant knock but fell short of a well-deserved century, scoring 91 off 102 balls with 13 boundaries. Meanwhile, middle-order batters Harleen Deol (44 off 50 balls), Harmanpreet Kaur (34 off 23 balls), Richa Ghosh (26 off 13 balls), and Jemimah Rodrigues (31 off 19 balls) made valuable contributions.

Deepti Sharma stayed unbeaten on 14 as India posted a total of 314/9 in their 50 overs. Zaida James was the standout bowler for West Indies, claiming five wickets.
