[Watch] Harry Brook becomes youngest England captain to score a century in 50-over format during ENG vs AUS 3rd ODI
England captain Harry Brook hit a boundary off Mitchell Starc to reach his maiden ODI century in the third of the five-game series against Australia at Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on Tuesday, September 24. Brook deliberately played a late cut to beat wicketkeeper Alex Carey as the ball traveled away for a boundary.
The 25-year-old has become the youngest England captain to register a hundred in the 50-over format. He broke the previous record held by Alastair Cook, who hit a ton against Sri Lanka in 2011, aged 26 years and 190 days.
The achievement came in the 35th over of England’s run chase. Starc bowled a length delivery and Brook played it very fine past the wicketkeeper. The pace on the ball helped it travel for a boundary. With that, he completed back-to-back boundaries. The Yorkshire batter took off his helmet to soak in the applause from his England teammate and the fans at large.
