[Watch] Harry Brook punishes Prabath Jayasuriya with a maximum right after a dropped catch on Day 3 of ENG vs SL 2024 2nd Test

England middle-order batter Harry Brook punished Prabath Jayasuriya with a maximum right after Nishan Madushka dropped a fairly straightforward catch on day three of the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord's. England Cricket posted a video of the same on their X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The incident came in the 22nd over of England's second innings as Brook went for a slog sweep and miscued it to the mid-wicket fielder. Madushka was in a good position to take the catch, but the ball spilt out of his hands. The Yorkshire batter got a similar delivery and got hold of it well enough to put it over the fence.

Here's a video of the two deliveries:

Nevertheless, Jayasuriya eventually got the better of the 25-year-old for 37 off 36 deliveries a few overs later.

England also lost Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope apart from Brook in the morning session on day three of the Test at Lord's. Milan Rathnayake had got the better of Duckett, while Asitha Fernando had removed captain Pope, whose poor series with the bat continued.

The first two days were of complete dominance by England, who lost the toss and Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva put the hosts into bat. Centuries by Joe Root and Gus Atkinson fired Pope's men to 427 despite being 216/6 at one stage.

Only Kamindu Mendis looked capable enough to withstand England's bowling unit as he scored 74 off 120 deliveries. Two wickets each by Atkinson, Chris Woakes, Ollie Stone, and Matthew Stone gave them a lead of 231 after the first innings.

At the time of writing, England were leading by 456 runs.
