[Watch] Harry Brook raises his bat to celebrate maiden 200, gets a hug from Joe Root in 2024 PAK vs ENG 1st Test

England’s new batting sensation Harry Brook continued his purple patch in Pakistan during the ongoing first Test in Multan on Day 4 (Thursday, October 10). The right-handed batter took 245 deliveries to reach his maiden double century, an innings laced with one six and 18 boundaries.

Brook achieved the special feat in the 126th over of England’s first innings. The Yorkshire batter dabbed Naseem Shah’s back-of-a-length ball towards deep backward point to take a single and get to the landmark. He took off his helmet and raised his bat to soak in the applause from his teammates and the crowd before getting a hug from Joe Root, who also hails from Yorkshire.

Notably, Harry Brook enjoys a stellar record in Pakistan, having scored 468 runs in five innings during the 2022/23 series. Earlier, on Day 3, the 25-year-old slammed his fourth ton against Pakistan in consecutive Tests. He has already amassed over 1,700 runs in 19 Tests, comprising six tons.

Harry Brook and Joe Root slammed double centuries to leave Pakistan in disarray against England in the first Test. The two players have already shared a 400-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

At the time of writing, the visitors were 658/3 at Lunch, leading by 102 runs, with Brook and Root at the crease. Ben Duckett was the last batter to be dismissed, lbw by Aamer Jamal with the score 249/3. The Men in Green have gone wicketless for the second consecutive session.

Batting first, the hosts put up 556 in their first innings. Captain Shan Masood led by example, scoring 151 runs off 177 balls. Meanwhile, Agha Salman and Abdullah Shafique chipped in with scores of 104* (119) and 102 (184), respectively. Jack Leach starred with the ball for England, picking up three wickets, while Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse scalped two each.
