[Watch] Harry Brook reaches his maiden triple-century with a boundary on Day 4 of 1st PAK vs ENG 2024 Test

England middle-order batter Harry Brook reached his maiden triple hundred as the tourists continued to pile on runs in the opening Test against Pakistan in Multan. The right-handed batter also became the sixth Englishman to score a triple-hundred, joining Len Hutton, Wally Hammond, Graham Gooch, Andy Sandham, and John Edrich.

The incident occurred in the 144th over of the innings sent down by Saim Ayub. The Yorkshire batter clubbed one down the ground and looked up in celebration, seemingly paying tribute to his grandmother, who died earlier this year. The 25-year-old had chosen to skip the five-Test series in India due to his grandmother's demise.

Having accomplished it in 310 deliveries, it is also the second-fastest triple century in Tests. Brook reached his hundred off 118 deliveries and double-ton off 245 deliveries, having finished day three in Multan unbeaten on 141.

Harry Brook had a chance to surpass Brian Lara's record of 400, but Saim Ayub got the better of him for 317, as Pakistan captain Shan Masood took the catch. The tourists eventually declared the first innings at a whopping 823/7 with a 267-run lead, having batted for 150 overs.

The partnership of 454 off 522 deliveries between Joe Root and his fellow Yorkshire man has been the bedrock of the massive total amassed by England. Root, who completed his 35th Test ton on Day 3 and became the highest run-getter for England in the longest format, missed out on a maiden triple, walking back for 262.

With the pitch starting to play a few tricks, the hosts will have a tricky time negotiating England's bowlers. Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique - both of who laid the platform for their side in the first innings must bear the responsibility in the second innings too to bat Pakistan to safety.
