Ravichandran Ashwin got a non-striker’s end or Mankad run out warning during the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024 game on Sunday, July 28. It took place during the match between the Nellai Royal Kings and the Dindigul Dragons.

The incident took place in the 15th over of the Dindigul Dragons’ innings. Mohan Prasath gave a warning to Ashwin for leaving the crease. Interestingly, Ashwin kept the bat on the crease till the last moment. The commentators couldn't stop laughing at the on-field affair.

“I’ll use that as an advantage for myself” – Ravichandran Ashwin on non-striker’s run out

In an old interview, Ravichandran Ashwin had backed non-strikers’ run out, saying it's a legitimate mode of dismissal like run out, caught, or bowled out. The 37-year-old had said that it's the individual's decision whether they want to run out batters at the non-striker's end or not, adding that challenges of U-turn to inflict the dismissal.

Ashwin said in 2022 (via India Today):

"Honestly, I also wouldn't like to get out like that just because I don't like -- it's not like I can't get out like that. So, nobody likes getting out. I don't like being nicked off, bowled, run out any way. I also wouldn't like to get run out at the non-striker because it's a form of dismissal, and it's pretty legal."
"See, there aren't a lot of arguments around it. Like with anything else in this world, when some things happen, you're going to have people with contradicting thoughts. Whether you want to do it or don't want to do it is absolutely fine. It's good to know that they won't do it because you can run the last minute, and you can wait,” he continued.

Ashwin added:

"It's good. I mean, if people are going to come out and say that they won't do it, as a cricketer, I'll use that as an advantage for myself.”

Ravichandran Ashwin, who is currently leading the Dindigul Dragons in TNPL 2024, will next be seen in action during a two-match Test series in Bangladesh in September.
