[Watch] Heavy rain, puddles, low visibility at the Gabba on Day 1 of BGT 2024-25 3rd Test
The third Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test between Australia and India at The Gabba has been hit by heavy rain, as was predicted, with play being halted on Day 1 (Saturday, December 14). Only 13.2 overs have been bowled so far.
While rain caused a short break in proceedings early on, the covers were taken off and play resumed. However, it was overcast throughout, with the rain threat looming at The Gabba. At the time of writing, the weather and the condition of the ground did not appear to be great, with chances of play resuming looking bleak.
Heavy rain continuing to pour has proved to be a spoilsport on the much-anticipated opening day of The Gabba Test between Australia and India, with the series hanging leveled at 1-1.
As it has been pouring down, the covers remain on. What appears to be more concerning though, are the puddles across the ground caused by the heavy downpour and the low visibility at the venue due to the weather conditions.
The weather and the condition of the ground at The Gabba can be seen in a video posted by a fan from the venue on social media platform Instagram.
Fans at the stadium and across the two nations will certainly be disappointed with the way things have gone on the opening day of the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Brisbane. While they remain hopeful for play to resume, chances of any more play taking place on the opening day only seem to be diminishing.
Limited play on opening day at The Gabba as rain plays spoilsport
Despite the overcast conditions and prediction of rain, play did begin in Brisbane as the third BGT 2024-25 Test between Australia and India got underway. However, with just 5.3 overs being bowled after India opted to field first, rain made its first appearance, interrupting play.
The play did resume as Australia carried on with their innings. However, just 13.2 overs into the first innings on the opening day, rain made another appearance, heavier this time, causing a long delay and potentially taking away any further chances of play on Day 1.
Nathan McSweeney and Usman Khawaja remain unbeaten on four and 19, respectively, as the hosts are 28 for no loss after 13.2 overs.
