India will take on Australia in St Lucia in the last Super 8 match for both teams in the 2024 T20 World Cup on Monday. The Men in Blue are on top of the points table in Group 1, with four points from two matches. The Aussies are second with one win and one defeat from two games and due to a better net run rate. They were stunned by Afghanistan by 21 runs in St Vincent on Sunday.
Ahead of the India vs Australia match, ANI shared a four-minute video of visuals from the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in which heavy rains are seen lashing the area.
Significantly, in case of a washout in the India vs Australia match at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia on Monday, the Men in Blue will qualify for the semifinals with five points.
In the above scenario, Australia will finish the Super 8 stage with three points. The ODI and Test world champions will need to hope that Bangladesh beat Afghanistan in the last Super 8 match of the tournament at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent. If that happens, both Bangladesh and Afghanistan will be knocked out of the tournament, while Australia will qualify for the semifinals.
On the other hand, if the India-Australia match does not produce a result and Afghanistan go on to beat Bangladesh in their last Super 8 match in St Vincent, Rashid Khan and co. will book their place in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup, while Australia will be knocked out. In such a scenario, Afghanistan would finish on four points, while the Aussies would be stuck on three points.
