[Watch] "I called 26 members of my family and I thought it will be my last day" - Dinesh Karthik after RCB vs CSK IPL 2024 match
Veteran Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has revealed that he was convinced that the IPL 2024 match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) would be his last. Karthik felt so because RCB had lost seven out of their first eight games and it seemed like they wouldn't qualify to the playoffs.
However, the turnaround has been nothing short of sensational as they won their next six games in a row and that helped them seal the fourth spot in the IPL 2024 points table.
Speaking in a video posted by RCB on their social media, Dinesh Karthik opened up on having planned to call his family to watch him play for the last time against CSK, assuming his team wouldn't go to the next phase. Here's what he said:
"Three weeks ago I made this decision that okay seven losses from eight games so this (May 18) will be my last day. I called 26 members of my family and I thought it will be my last day. But they ended up realizing that I maybe playing a few more games."
Here's the video:
Karthik hailed the players for not waving the white flag despite the torrid first half of the season that they had. DK also explained how conditions were against RCB having lost the toss against CSK and was proud that they never gave up.
Dinesh Karthik on how MS Dhoni's six turned the tide for RCB
CSK needed 17 runs off the last over to qualify for the playoffs and the over began perfectly for the visitors as MS Dhoni smashed Yash Dayal for a six over fine leg. However, the fact that the ball went outside the stadium made Dinesh Karthik believe that it worked in the hosts' favor.
Karthik explained how the six allowed RCB get a drier ball, thereby helping Yash Dayal bowl his slower balls into the pitch with more control. He said:
"I think the best thing to happen today was Dhoni hitting that six outside the ground. We got a new ball which was much better to bowl with. Yash that was good bowling."
Karthik concluded by claiming that RCB had set an example for those teams in the future edition of the IPL that they could still make a comeback even if they get off to a poor start.
