[Watch] “I feel very good when I can help the team” – Jasprit Bumrah replies PM Modi on bowling tough overs in 2024 T20 World Cup final
India ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah said he loves bowling difficult overs while in interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2024 T20 World Cup champions meet in New Delhi on Thursday, July 4. Bumrah said that death overs are his forte and to be able to deliver for his team gives him joy. The speedster added he felt surreal to win an ICC trophy for the first time in his career.
Bumrah was adjudged Player of the Tournament at the 2024 T20 World Cup. He picked up 15 wickets in eight games at a brilliant economy rate of 4.18. The 30-year-old brought back India in the game when the Proteas needed a run-a-ball 30 with six wickets in the bag in the final.
Notably, Bumrah conceded only four and two runs in the 16th and 18th overs, respectively. He also dismissed South Africa all-rounder Marco Jansen in his last over.
In a video shared by ANI, Jasprit Bumrah said:
"Whenever I bowl for India, I bowl in very crucial stages. Whenever the situation is difficult, I have to bowl in that situation. So, I feel very good when I can help the team and if I can win the match from any difficult situation, I get a lot of confidence and I carry that confidence forward as well."
“And especially in this tournament, there were many situations where I had to bowl tough overs and I was able to help the team and win the match,” he added.
Bumrah accompanied his anchor wife Sanjana Ganesan and son Angad to meet PM.
“National treasure and eighth wonder of the world” – Virat Kohi lauds Jasprit Bumrah
Virat Kohli said he was ready to sign a petition calling Jasprit Bumrah a national treasure and the eighth wonder of the world. Speaking at the felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, Kohli said (via Jio Cinema):
"I'll sign the petition now (on calling Jasprit Bumrah a national treasure and eighth wonder of the world). He is a once-in-a-generation bowler."
“A guy who brought us back into games again and again and again in this tournament. What he did in those last five overs, bowling two out of the last five overs. It was phenomenal,” he added.
Kohli himself played a goliath knock in the 2024 T20 World Cup final, scoring 76 to overcome his lean patch. The Men in Blue posted 176 before Bumrah weaved his magic during the last five overs of the game.
