[Watch] ICC launches 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup song by Indian girl band W.i.S.H

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday, September 23, released the official anthem of the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup. The official song - "Whatever it takes" - is composed by Mikey McCleary and Parth Parekh and produced by Bay Music House. The song's launch comes 10 days ahead of the ICC event, which will be played in Dubai and Sharjah from October 3 to 20.

The official song is sung by an Indian girl band W.i.S.H (World Inka Stage Hai or World is Their Stage), comprising four members. They are Riya Duggal, Simran Duggal, Zoe Siddharth, and Suchita Shirk. The band debuted in 2024 and has released four songs so far.

The 1.40 mins clip features flashbacks of some of the most memorable moments in Women's T20 World Cups apart from choreography.

Speaking about the song's release for the Women's T20 World Cup, ICC General Manager Claire Furlong said in a press release:

"Women's cricket is firmly established on the global stage, and our vision is to further enhance its recognition with the launch of the official event song.
"This soundtrack is not only a prelude of the extraordinary talent that will be displayed on the field of play, but also the vehicle to inspiring a new generation of heroes to women’s cricket’s ever-growing, worldwide fanbase."

“We can’t wait for them to do the hook step from the music video” – Girl band W.i.S.H keen to watch Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues perform on official ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 song

The Girl band W.i.S.H has shared their excitement about the launch of the song. They said in a press release:

"As huge fans of Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana, we can’t wait for them to do the hook step from the music video and of course the other players from all the participating nations."
"We are incredibly proud to share that as an all-girl group, we’ve created the official event song for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup! Cricket is a powerful force that unites people across our country and around the world, and it’s an honour to contribute to such a special occasion," they added.

India will begin their Women's T20 World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Dubai on October 4.

Group A: Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka

Group B: South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Scotland

Each team will play four group-stage games before the knockout matches. There is a reserve day for the two semifinals and the final. Australia are the defending champions. They have won the tournament six times.
