[Watch] Injury scare for Harmanpreet Kaur as she walks off holding her neck in IND vs PAK Women's T20 World Cup 2024 match
Indian women's captain Harmanpreet Kaur injured her neck in the T20 World Cup 2024 clash against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, October 6. The right-handed batter couldn't resume her innings and walked off holding her neck.
The incident occurred in the 19th over of the run chase. Nida Dar bowled a full delivery and Harmanpreet looked to guide it fine. The ace batter missed the ball and fell as Muneeba Ali missed a stumping opportunity, with the Indian captain's one foot outside the crease for a split second.
While the 35-year-old dragged her foot back into the crease, the over-balance hurt her. India's physio came to examine Harmanpreet, but she couldn't resume batting.
Here's a video of the incident:
Harmanpreet played a valuable unbeaten 29-run knock to help the Women in Blue register their first win in the T20 World Cup 2024, chasing down 106 with six wickets to spare.
Smriti Mandhana had come to the post-match presentation instead of Harmanpreet Singh
With Harmanpreet dealing with her injury, Smriti Mandhana came to the post-match presentation. She said it was too soon to comment on the magnitude of the injury.
"[On the injury to Harmanpreet] Too soon to say anything. Medical team is looking at it," she said.
Mandhana added India did think about their net run rate in the chase but didn't want to lose wickets in the course.
"We have been very disciplined, followed the plans. In the field we were very good. Better start with the bat would have been good, but we will take that win. [NRR] We did think about it. Me and Shafali could not time the ball . We didn't want to end up losing a lot of wickets. We were a little calculative," she added.
The Women in Blue will next face Sri Lanka on Wednesday, October 9.
