[Watch] "It won’t keep me down for long" - Mohammed Shami gears up for comeback
Team India's star fast bowler Mohammed Shami is currently on the sidelines due to an ankle injury. Much to the delight of fans, the 33-year-old has commenced training as he prepares to make a comeback.
Shami was last seen in action at the 2023 ODI World Cup. He was the standout performer for the Men in Blue, finishing as the leading wicket-taker with 27 scalps from just seven outings.
The seasoned campaigner underwent surgery on February 26 and was ruled out of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Taking to his official Instagram account, Shami shared a video, giving fans a glimpse of his recent training session.
Mohammed Shami captioned the post:
"Injury may have sidelined me, but it won’t keep me down for long. Watch me reclaim my place on the field."
It is worth mentioning that Mohammed Shami isn't part of India's 2024 T20 World Cup squad as he continues to recover from his injury. The bowler is expected to make his much-awaited return to international cricket later this year in September during India's Test series against Bangladesh.
GT dearly missed Mohammed Shami in their IPL 2024 campaign
The Gujarat-based side were without their pace spearhead at the IPL 2024. His absence hurt the team's chances significantly, given that he is one of their top bowling starts.
Mohammed Shami was in top form in last year's IPL. He picked up 28 wickets from 17 matches and won the Purple Cap. With Shami ruled out of the latest edition, the Titans struggled to perform consistently.
Gujarat finished with five wins and seven losses, while two of their matches were abandoned due to rain. The Shubman Gill-led side failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in their IPL history, ending at eighth spot in the points table.
