[Watch] Jam-packed Wankhede crowd sings the national anthem with 2024 T20 World Cup champions India

A packed crowd at Wankhede Stadium stood up to sing the Indian national anthem with 2024 T20 World Cup champions India before the felicitation ceremony on Thursday, July 4. The players and the fans sang the national anthem together, leaving everyone emotional.

The players were felicitated at Wankhede following an open bus victory parade from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium.

Thousands flooded Marine Drive to get a glimpse of their heroes. The felicitation ceremony was also attended by the BCCI dignitaries who gave away an INR 125 crore cheque to the Rohit Sharma-led side.

The players also received a special welcome from fans at the New Delhi airport and at the team hotel in Delhi before meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The players were also greeted after arriving at Mumbai airport and on the way to the felicitation ceremony.

Virat Kohli thanked fans for coming out in large numbers at Wankhede on a weekday to cheer for the 2024 T20 World Cup champions. The 35-year-old re-iterated that the T20 World Cup final win was the perfect time to bring down the curtain on his T20I career. He said (via Jio Cinema):

“A big thank you to all the fans. It has been something that I will never forget. After the game, I knew it, it was time for me to quit. No better place to come back. The last time we won was also in Wankhede. Love the crowd here.”

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah also expressed similar sentiments as Kohli towards the fans. He said:

“Never seen something like this. Will never forget these memories I have now.”

Notably, Kohli and Bumrah won Player of the Match (final) and Player of the tournament awards, respectively, at the 2024 T20 World Cup.
