[Watch] James Anderson finally strikes by dismissing Jayden Seales lbw to bag 1st wicket of his farewell Test in ENG vs WI series opener

Ace pacer James Anderson had to wait for the second session to pick up the first wicket of his farewell Test played between England and West Indies at Lord’s London on Wednesday, July 10. The speedster trapped Jayden Seales lbw as WI were bundled out for 121 in their first innings.

The dismissal came in the 42nd over of WI’s innings. It was Anderson's 11th over of the match. The pace spearhead bowled a full-length ball on off-stump that shaped back in and went right past the inside edge to hit the back foot. Seals took the review but in vain. The replays showed no ultra edge and three reds on the ball tracker.

James Anderson will finish as the highest wicket-taker among pacers following his retirement. The Lancashire-born player has bagged 701 wickets in 188* Tests so far. Anderson will immediately join England as a mentor after his farewell Test.

Gus Atkinson overshadows James Anderson on his Test debut on Day 1 of ENG vs WI 1st Test

England debutant Gus Atkinson starred with the ball as his side bundled out West Indies for a modest total on Day 1. Atkinson finished with exceptional figures of 7/45, while James Anderson, Chris Woakes, and captain Ben Stokes shared the remaining three wickets.

For the visitors, Mikyle Louis (27 off 58), Alick Athanaze (23 off 56), and Kavem Hodge (24 off 48) got off to starts but failed to convert them into big scores. Alzarri Joseph and Gudakesh Motie chipped in with 17 (9) and 14* (19) to help the team cross the three-figure mark.

The Ben Stokes-led side would be keen to win the opening Test. They are currently placed last in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table with three victories in 10 Tests at a win percentage of 17.50.

Team India, who beat England 4-1 at home this year, are currently on top of the WTC standings while Australia and New Zealand hold the second and third places, respectively.
