[Watch] James Anderson makes an absolute meal of a simple catch during ENG vs WI 1st Test; misses fitting farewell

Legendary England pacer James Anderson missed the opportunity to finish his Test career with a wicket as he dropped a simple catch of West Indies' Gudakesh Motie during the Lord's Test on Friday, July 12. It could have been Anderson's 705th Test wicket.

Motie tried to work a good length delivery from Anderson towards the leg side and got a leading edge that came to the bowler slower than he would have expected. Anderson seemed confident of gobbling it up as he went for the catch nonchalantly with his left hand.

However, the ball hit his left palm and popped out. Here's a video of the dropped chance:

James Anderson could only smile in disbelief and embarrassment as he knew he should have taken the catch. The last wicket of the game was eventually Jayden Seales, who was caught at deep square leg off Gus Atkinson's bowling.

James Anderson dismissed Joshua Da Silva as his final Test wicket

James Anderson's final Test wicket was a mode of dismissal that spoke so much about his accuracy and brilliance in a nutshell. Joshua Da Silva was beaten all ends up by a fuller-length delivery that pitched and had that late away swing on it.

Closing the face of his bat, Da Silva could only get an outside edge that was caught comfortably by wicketkeeper Jamie Smith. It meant that Anderson ended his Test career with 704 wickets.

Here's a video of the dismissal:

West Indies were always playing catch-up in the Test once they were bowled out for just 121 after being put into bat first. Despite some resistance by Gudakesh Motie in the end, the visitors couldn't show much fight in their second innings as well as they were bundled out for 136, handing England a win by an innings and 114 runs.
