[Watch] Jason Holder hits a six to reach his 50 in WI vs SA 2nd Test

West Indies (WI) all-rounder Jason Holder slammed a six off Wiaan Mulder to get to his fifty against South Africa on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test at Providence Stadium in Guyana on Friday, August 16. The shot came off the last ball of the 37th over of the Windies’ first innings. Mulder bowled the delivery right in the slot and Holder stepped forward, cleared his front leg to loft it over long-on, and got to his half-century in style.

Holder stayed unbeaten on 54 runs off 88 deliveries, a knock laced with six boundaries and one maximum. This was his 14th fifty in Test cricket. The 32-year-old also shared a 40-run partnership with Shamar Joseph for the last wicket to reduce the hosts’ deficit in the first innings.

On the bowling front, Jason Holder had dismissed Tristan Stubbs in South Africa’s first innings.

Jason Holder’s fifty helped the West Indies fight back against South Africa in the first innings of the second Test. The hosts were bundled out for a mere 144 in 42.4 overs. Keacy Carty (26 off 37) and Shamar Joseph (25 off 27) also came up with valuable contributions. Gudakesh Motie (11 off 35) was the other batter to reach double digits.

Wiaan Mulder starred with the ball for the Proteas, returning with figures of 4/32, while Nandre Burger and Keshav Maharaj bagged three and two wickets, respectively.

Batting first, South Africa were bundled out for 160 in their first innings. Tristan Stubbs (26 off 65), David Bedingham (28 off 54), and Kyle Verreynne (21 off 33) got starts but failed to convert them into big scores. Dane Piedt (38* off 60) and Nandre Burger (23 off 56) added a 63-run partnership for the last wicket.

Shamar Joseph emerged as the pick of the WI bowlers, finishing with figures of 5/33, while Jayden Seales bagged three wickets.

At the time of writing, SA were 24 without loss in their second innings, with Aiden Markram and Tony de Zorzi at the crease. They are currently leading by 38 runs.
