[Watch] Jasprit Bumrah bowls in the nets, but not his usual type, ahead of BGT 2024-25 3rd Test
As the whole of India waited with bated breath on Jasprit Bumrah's fitness, the ace pacer provided much relief by running in full tilt during the nets session ahead of the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Brisbane, starting on Saturday, December 14. Bumrah went down on the field during the second Test in Adelaide and required attention from the physio.
While he resumed bowling, and many dismissed the mishap as just cramps, speculations about a possible injury have occurred. With the best-of-five series locked at 1-1, Bumrah remains paramount to India's chances of pulling off a third consecutive Test series win in Australia.
However, the champion pacer looked fully fit as he started bowling a few leg-break deliveries before going to his full-on pace mode.
Here is a video clipping going viral on social media with Bumrah bowling at the nets, much to the joy of Indian fans.
Bumrah has been India's Most Valuable Player (MVP) over the past year and in the ongoing Australia series.
The 31-year-old led the side as captain and with the ball in the opening Test at Perth, producing figures of 8/72 in India's massive 295-run win. Bumrah continued his outstanding form in the second Test with figures of 4/61 in the first innings of India's crushing ten-wicket defeat.
With 12 wickets at an extraordinary average of 11.25 thus far in the series, Bumrah is the leading wicket-taker across both sides.
"There’s no way that’s cramp" - Damien Fleming
Former Australian pacer felt Jasprit Bumrah's going down in the second Test couldn't have just been cramps and raised possible injury concerns ahead of the Brisbane Test.
The champion pacer missed a year of action with an ankle injury before returning in the second half of 2023.
Speaking on SEN Radio, Fleming was quoted as saying by India Today:
“There’s got to be some serious doubts. Siraj might be workload [related] but I’m bemused Bumrah bowled that over. They could have hid this. They showed their hand. There’s no way that’s cramp. He was very ginger after the break in the first innings. He bowled again, not quite as slow second innings. I don’t even know why he bowled that over [in the second innings]. That actually gave some secrets away to everyone."
Despite the possible injury risk, Bumrah bowled one over during Australia's run-chase of 19 in the second innings of the Adelaide outing.
