[Watch] Jasprit Bumrah castles Mohammad Rizwan with a peach in IND vs PAK 2023 World Cup clash
Team India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah joined the party as the Men in Blue picked up the sixth Pakistani wicket in the form of Mohammad Rizwan in the ongoing 2023 World Cup clash on Saturday (October 14).
Bumrah's slower off-cutter bamboozled the keeper-batter as he was nearing his half-century at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad The dismissal came in the 34th over of the innings as Rohit Sharma introduced Bumrah for a new spell of bowling.
The ball by the Ahmedabad-born cricketer was an off-cutter as the right-hander left a big gap between his bat and pad and struck the off-stump as a result. The 32-year-old had to walk back for 49 off 69 deliveries.
Earlier, the Men in Blue captain Rohit won the toss and elected to field first, citing dew as the factor. The home side also made a big change as Shubman Gill came back into the squad for Ishan Kishan, who opened in the first two matches but could not do anything remarkable.
Gill missed the initial two fixtures against Australia and Afghanistan in Chennai and Delhi, respectively, due to dengue fever.
Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam shared an 82-run stand
The keeper-batter, who joined Babar Azam after the dismissal of Imam-ul-Haq, added 82 runs with his skipper, albeit at a relatively steady rate. Mohammed Siraj, who had also dismissed Saud Shakeel earlier in the innings, returned to get rid of Babar immediately after his half-century.
The Men in Green are looking for their first win against India in 50-over World Cups, having lost all seven matches since the 1992 edition in Australia and New Zealand.
The 1992 World Champions have won both their games so far and registered the highest successful run-chase in World Cup history by gunning down 345 against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad.
Despite a top-order failure, Pakistan managed to win as Abdullah Shafique and Rizwan slammed gritty centuries.
