[Watch] Jasprit Bumrah cleans up Alex Carey with a ripper on Day 4 of BGT 2024-25 4th Test

Ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah continued to make inroads against Australia in their second innings on Day 4 (Sunday, December 29) of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. After getting Sam Konstas, Travis Head, and Mitchell Marsh, he also got rid of in-form wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey, averaging 32.50 in the five-game series. The latter departed for just two runs off seven deliveries, reducing the hosts to 93/6.

The dismissal came in the 36th over of Australia’s second innings. Bumrah bowled a length ball from around the wicket and Carey looked to play the delivery on his back foot. The ball passed the inside edge and clipped the pads before crashing into the stumps.

Bumrah is the leading wicket-taker in the five-game series, extending his wickets tally to 29. He also completed 200 wickets in the format when he dismissed Travis Head earlier in the day.


Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj help India fightback against Australia on Day 4

A clinical bowling display from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj helped India fight back against Australia on Day 4. Siraj also dismissed Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith after returning wicketless in the first innings.

At the time of writing, the hosts were 94/6, with Marnus Labuschagne and skipper Pat Cummins at the crease. They are leading by 199 runs in the second innings.

Earlier in the day, the visitors were bundled out for 369 as Nitish Kumar Reddy starred with the bat, scoring 114 off 189 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Washington Sundar also chipped in with 82 and 50, respectively. Pat Cummins, Scott Boland, and Nathan Lyon picked up three wickets apiece.

Batting first, Australia put up 474. Steve Smith top scored with 140, while the top three chipped in with half-centuries apiece. Cummins also chipped in with 49. Bumrah was the leading wicket-taker for the tourists, picking up four wickets. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja and Akash Deep bagged three and two wickets apiece.

The five-game series is currently tied 1-1.
