Indian pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah claimed the key wicket of Travis Head, completing his five-wicket haul and securing India’s sixth breakthrough on Day 2 (Sunday, December 15) of the third Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). The game is being played at The Gabba in Brisbane.
The dismissal came on the fifth ball of the 87th over of Australia’s first innings. Bumrah delivered a full ball outside off and Head threw his hands at it, attempting to drive through covers. However, he only managed a thick outside edge that flew to Rishabh Pant, who completed an easy catch. This was Bumrah's 12th five-wicket haul in Test cricket and his third against Australia.

However, Head’s departure came after a sensational innings. The left-handed batter scored 152 off 160 balls, including 18 boundaries. His wicket left Australia at 327-6 after 86.5 overs. This was the 30-year-old’s ninth Test century, third against India, and second in consecutive matches.

Only 13.2 overs were bowled on Day 1 of the third Test in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to rain. On the morning of Day 2, Jasprit Bumrah made an early impact, dismissing both Australian openers, Usman Khawaja (21) and Nathan McSweeney (9). Marnus Labuschagne also fell cheaply for 12, dismissed by Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Travis Head and Steven Smith then took control for the hosts, putting together a 241-run partnership off 302 balls for the fourth wicket. Smith brought up his 33rd Test century, scoring 101 off 190 balls, while Head contributed 152 off 160 balls. Mitchell Marsh had a disappointing outing, making only five runs.
At the time of writing, Australia were 347-6 after 90 overs, with Alex Carey (14) and Pat Cummins (7) at the crease. Jasprit Bumrah has claimed five wickets for India.
