[Watch] Jasprit Bumrah outsmarts Phil Salt with a brilliant slower delivery in IND vs ENG 2024 T20 World Cup semisĀ
Team India spearhead Jasprit Bumrah castled Phil Salt with a clever slower delivery in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup semi-final encounter against England. The opening batter was dismissed for just five runs in the run chase at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday, June 27.
England made a spirited start to the 172-run chase courtesy of Jos Buttler. However, the Men in Blue made a huge statement after Axar Patel dismissed the England skipper in the very first ball of his spell. Rohit Sharma deployed Bumrah for his second straight over in the powerplay to maximize the pressure, and the move paid off.
Bumrah kept things tight after conceding only one run off the first half of the over, and brilliantly changing the pace throughout. Salt tried to take the pacer on with a heave through the off-side. However, he didn't read the delivery to be a slow off-cutter. As a result, he ended up being way too early into his stroke and the ball nipped off the surface to hit the leg stump and give India the valuable strike.
Have a look at the dismissal right here:
Salt's dismissal left England in a tricky position at 34-2 in the fifth over of the innings.
Bumrah and Co. dominate the powerplay with the wickets of Buttler, Salt and Bairstow
Team India managed to end the powerplay on a high as Axar Patel struck in his second over as well to dismiss Jonny Bairstow. The wicket-keeper batter tried to negotiate a delivery through the off side but the left-arm pacer got the ball to skid through and hit the stumps. Bairstow had to depart with a three-ball duck to his name.
England are completely losing the plot after a troublesome powerplay. India have made a strong start to the middle overs with spinners well into the fray and spinning a web over the middle order. As of writing, Axar Patel has struck for the third time to send back Moeen Ali after a sharp stumping while the score reads 46-4 in the eighth over.
