[Watch] Jasprit Bumrah removes well-set Rishabh Pant in MI-DC IPL 2024 clash
The eagerly anticipated match-up between Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant went the way of the former in the marquee clash between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 27.
Coming into bat at the fall of the second wicket in the 10th over, Pant got himself set on 29 from 18 deliveries. However, Bumrah bowled the 19th over and dismissed the DC skipper off the second delivery after a wide first ball.
Pant tried to pull a slower short delivery from MI's ace pacer but could not get hold of it and offered a simple catch to Rohit Sharma at the deep backward square leg region.
Here is a video of the same:
Earlier in the innings, Pant smashed Bumrah with an authoritative flick for a maximum. Yet, it was the seventh time in T20s that the MI pacer dismissed the southpaw, with the batter striking at under 120.
The duo has enjoyed a terrific run thus far in IPL 2024, with Pant the second-leading run-scorer (371 runs) and Bumrah the joint-leading wicket-taker (14 wickets).
DC post a mammoth total against a hapless MI attack
MI's bowling woes in the 2024 season continued as the DC batter scored their highest-ever IPL total of 257/4 in 20 overs.
After being asked to bat first, DC opener Jake Fraser-McGurk smashed a scintillating 27-ball 84 with 11 boundaries and six maximums. The knock propelled the side to 114 in the eighth over before which he was eventually dismissed.
The momentum did not stop there as Shai Hope scored a 17-ball 41 and Abishek Porel a 27-ball 36. In the end, the big-hitting Tristan Stubbs also got into the act, scoring a breathtaking 48* off 25 balls.
Barring Jasprit Bumrah and Piyush Chawla, the other MI bowlers conceded over 10 runs per over, with Luke Wood and Hardik Pandya being the most expensive. While the former gave away 68 off his four overs, the latter was dispatched for 41 off 2 overs.
With both teams on five losses in eight (MI) and nine (DC) games, respectively, the ongoing clash is crucial for their playoff qualification hopes.
