[Watch] Jasprit Bumrah & Rohit Sharma combine to remove Usman Khawaja in BGT 2024-25 2nd Test

Team India speedster Jasprit Bumrah made the opening breakthrough for his side by dismissing Usman Khawaja in the final session on Day 1 of the second Border Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia in Adelaide. Skipper Rohit Sharma claimed a sharp catch in the slip cordon to seal the veteran batter's exit.

The Men in Blue needed their bowlers to step up again after being skittled out for 180 with the bat in the first innings. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj tested the under-fire Australian opening combination with the pink ball, but did not have any wickets to show for it.

Bumrah, bowling his sixth over on the trot in his opening spell, kept Khawaja under check. Off the final delivery, coming around the wicket, the pacer got the ball to move away after pitching. The left-handed opener could not resist the wide delivery, and his curiosity got the best of him as the ball traveled to Rohit Sharma at second slip after claiming the edge.

Have a look at the dismissal right here:

Usman Khawaja departed after scoring 13 runs off 35 deliveries, leaving Australia at 24/1 after 11 overs.

Bumrah had dismissed Khawaja in a similar fashion in the Perth Test too

Indian pacers have been using the around-the-wicket angle against the left-handed Khawaja for a significant while now. Whether be it Mohammed Shami during the 2023 Border-Gavaskar series or Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj at present.

Khawaja had fallen for the same trap against Bumrah in Perth as well, with Virat Kohli claiming the catch in the slip cordon on that occasion. The veteran opening batter is struggling with form, as his dismissal in Adelaide marks his eighth one without a fifty.

As of writing, the Indian bowlers are trying to maximize the pink ball's effect under the lights in the final session. Bumrah has finished his seven-over marathon spell as Australia are placed at 36/1 after 15 overs, with Marnus Labuschagne joining Nathan McSweeney out in the middle.
