[Watch] Jasprit Bumrah strikes on the 2nd ball of Day 5 to dismiss Tom Latham for 0 in the 1st IND vs NZ 2024 Test

Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has made the perfect start to the final day by trapping Tom Latham LBW for a duck in the first Test against New Zealand. The Kiwi skipper could not guide his side in the tricky fourth innings run chase of 107 after rain delayed the start at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Bumrah had given Latham a tough time in the four deliveries bowled late on Day 4 before play was called off due to bad light. The pacer was right on the money to kickstart proceedings on the final day, narrowly missing the left-handed batter's outside edge on the first ball.

Bumrah followed it up with a delivery that swung and seamed back into Latham. The ball struck right on the front pad, a long way from the bat, leading to a raucous appeal from the hosts. Umpire Michael Gough lifted his finger straightaway to hand India the early breakthrough.

Tom Latham opted for a review, but ball tracking showed the delivery was hitting the middle stump. The skipper had to walk back as New Zealand started the day on the worst possible note.

The New Zealand skipper had scored 15 runs in the first innings before being trapped LBW by Kuldeep Yadav.

The early dismissal has riled up the Indian unit and the crowd at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have made the new ball talk as the duo of Will Young and Devon Conway are hanging on to survive the early storm.

As of writing, New Zealand are placed at 4-1 after four overs on Day 5. Passing showers have been forecasted for the day as both sides are still in the hunt for the lead in the three-match series.
