[Watch] Jasprit Bumrah strikes in his first over to castle Shadman Islam in IND vs BAN 2024 1st Test
Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah struck in the first over of the Bangladesh innings to knock over Shadman Islam in the Test series opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The visitors turned up to bat after bowling out India for 376 in the early stages of Day 2 (Friday, September 20).
Playing for India for the first time since the 2024 T20 World Cup final in June, Bumrah began on an erratic note, with most deliveries straying on the leg side line of the left-handed batter. The right-arm pacer then got one ball to move away from the batter and beat the edge.
Jasprit Bumrah switched to around the wicket for the final delivery of the over and the angle made the difference right away. Expecting an outswinger, Shadman Islam chose to leave the delivery. However, the ball came back in along with the angle and hit the top of the off stump to give India their first breakthrough. Have a look at the dismissal right here:
Shadman Islam departed for two runs off six deliveries, extending his inconsistent run since returning to the Test side after a two-year absence.
Jasprit Bumrah makes the new ball talk against the Bangladesh top-order
With Bangladesh's top three — Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto — being left-handed batters, Jasprit Bumrah's angle from around the stumps could prove tricky to deal with. After attaining success with the same in the first over, Bumrah has stuck with the approach in his second over as well.
The pacer was hit for a boundary in his second over but has made an impressive start to the game, with figures of 1-7 after two overs. At the time of writing, Bangladesh are 8-1 after four overs.
The visitors made relatively easy work of India's lower order after a deflating final session on the opening day. Taskin Ahmed was potent with the new ball while Hasan Mahmud also picked up a wicket to end the proceedings as he finished with a five-wicket haul.
